For the first time ever, we’ve expanded the OnBoard programme, so you can now you can access the training, even if you haven’t recruited a young person on your board.

WHAT IS ONBOARD?

Governance is not working. We want to change that.


Through OnBoard, we offer your organisation an opportunity to access bespoke recruitment and/ or a programme of training for new and existing board members that challenges and supports you to rethink and diversify your governance through young leaders.

OnBoard is designed to suit your needs, so choose your own adventure.

Either pick and choose the training sessions that are relevant for you, or access the full programme where we’ll recruit 2 young board members (18+) from our community on to your board and you’ll receive training and support for them and existing members of your board.

INCLUSIVE RECRUITMENT of young leaders

We use our expertise in consultation and inclusive recruitment to put forward a range of different members of Rising’s community who are excited to join your board. We then recruit a minimum of 2 young trustees on to your board.

They’ll receive access to our full training programme and support for 12 months, as well as our OnBoard alumni of other young leaders. Rising will also facilitate a session as part of your next board away day around Inclusive Governance to ensure the learning is embedded across your board.

Frequently asked questions (faqS)

  • We specifically designed this programme so that you can get exactly what you need from it. You can either book on to the OnBoard training sessions for yourself or multiple members of your board to refresh your governance skills and refocus on your objectives, or we can support you to bring X2 young trustees on to your board who will get access to the full training programme. Or you can do a mix of the two, it’s up to you!

  • If you decide to access the full Onboard programme, Rising will work with your organisation to helps organisations recruit, support and train two young trustees into their governance structure through our hand-picked experts and OnBoard alumni.

    Although OnBoard officially lasts 12 months, young people are expected to remain on the board for the duration of a term and will still be able to stay connected to Rising's wider community. We hope that participating organisations build on the learning they gain from OnBoard and advocate for the value of having young trustees to their networks.

  • No, not at all! From 2026, the training will be open to everyone.

  • No, if you want to access the full programme, you can join at any time of the year and you will receive 12 months’ support from the date you sign up. You can also book on to the training programmes at any time of the year

  • It's great that you have young people who could take up strategic positions in your organisation. However, OnBoard offers organisations more than just recruitment. Rising helps your organisation support 2 young people to your board through a structured training programme, resources and on- going support. We use our considered recruitment process to recruit an engaged network of young leaders, capable of creating change in your spaces and sector. Sometimes, a fresh pair of eyes can have a significant impact on your strategy and the way you work.

  • As a result of Black Lives Matter, we have intentionally made it compulsory to recruit a minimum of 2 young trustees to combat tokenism, and ensure the young trustees have peer-support, while on the board.

  • Yes definitely! We’ve opened up OnBoard so that you and members of your board can access each training session from £50 per person, on a pay as you go basis.

    Alternatively, we do offer a payment plan for the full programme, where you can pay 50% up front, and the remaining 50% at a later date.

  • If you are not on a board, you’re still very welcome to pay to come along to one or more of the sessions.
