We are shortlisted for National Diversity Awards 2019

The Rising team have some exciting news to share!

We are pleased to announce that Rising Arts Agency has made the shortlist for the Community Organisation Award for Age at the National Diversity Awards 2019, in association with ITV News. We were shortlisted from over 28,000 nominations and votes and are in a category with seven other deserving organisations. The award ceremony is happening on Friday 20th September in Liverpool – so expect to hear the results shortly after then. Regardless of the results, we are grateful to the National Diversity Awards and everyone who voted for us – it feels great to be nationally recognised for the work we’re doing in the city.

The Community Organisation Awards seek to recognise individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to their local community.  Here’s why we believe the work we’re doing is important:

Our Work with Organisations

Rising is a youth-led organisation – as it currently stands, 1/3 of Rising’s directors are under 25. All of our strategic decision-making is made by our youth board – a group of young people who are responsible for making the final decisions on things like partnerships, programming and the organisation’s 10 year forecasting. We are a young team of creative thinkers, performers, movers and shakers all under 30 – apart from Kamina, Rising’s founding Director. We’re proud of Rising’s make-up and we work with organisations to help them embed youth voice and governance in their strategic decision-making processes. Although this is embedded within all the work we do, our dedicated programmes, OnBoard and OpenUp do this work in a supported, structured and regenerative way.

Our Work with Young People

A big part of the work we do seeks to profile the work and achievement of talented young people in the city. We arm young people with the training, platforms and paid opportunities to enter and succeed in the creative industries. Every six months, we take on three new ‘Featured Artists’ who we work on behalf of to get commissions, work experience and opportunities. We have an extended community of young people who we run events and workshops for, include in leadership discourse and profile through our social media channels. It is important to us that we work to eradicate the barriers to the creative industries so that everyone can claim a stake in the city’s cultural and creative offers, so whether that’s challenging the status quo through an online campaign or by working to minimise barriers through our everyday practices, we want to nurture a community of engaged young people and support forward-thinking organisations to better serve YP.

Thank you to everyone for voted for us and thank you to the NDA judges. This is a true testament to the importance of this work and we hope to get better and better every year. Stay tuned.
