From Capturing Photos to Shaping Strategies: An Evolution Powered by Rising Arts Agency

As I prepare to leave the Rising Arts Agency team, I’m reflecting on the transformative journey I’ve experienced since joining in 2018. This path has profoundly shaped my career and personal growth, guiding me from portrait photography to marketing leadership.

An Unexpected Evolution

Scott Galloway, a thinker I deeply admire, often speaks about the distinction between vanity industries (Filmmaking, Podcasting, etc) and talent industries (Engineering, Teaching, etc) He warns that young creatives can get trapped in glamorous fields that offer little value or long-term success. His advice is straightforward: seek environments where your talents are recognized and nurtured. Rising Arts Agency has been precisely that environment for me, guiding my evolution from capturing moments to shaping strategies.

From Portraits to Strategic Impact

Rising Arts Agency is more than just a creative hub—it’s a place where young creatives are empowered to become critical thinkers and leaders. A pivotal part of my journey was taking official portraits for artists and team members, which deepened my passion for portrait photography and helped me discover my primary niche. This role allowed me to connect with people on a deeper level, capturing their essence meaningfully and authentically.

The agency helped me turn my passion into impactful opportunities. From my first commissions while still in university to working with household names like The National Trust, seeing my work on billboards across the city, and being commissioned by the Royal West of England Academy (RWA), Rising connected me with significant milestones in my creative journey. Additionally, through Rising’s brilliant OnBoard program, I had the privilege of serving as a board member at St George's Bristol, further expanding my leadership and strategic skills.

The Pinnacle of My Journey

One of the highlights of my time at Rising has been serving as the Storyteller (marketing lead) for a year. This role was a turning point, merging my love for visual storytelling with strategic marketing. It has been a period of immense growth, where I learned to blend storytelling with community-centered communication. Kamina Walton’s initial support when I first got involved with Rising and the current leadership of Euella Jackson and Jess Bunyan have profoundly influenced my approach to care, empathy, and strategic storytelling.

A Community That Embraces Every Part of Me

Rising has been more than just an agency; it’s been a community that values individuality. The leadership team’s openness to my neurodiversity, heritage, and faith in Jesus has been rare and deeply appreciated. Their acceptance and support have allowed me to thrive, and I’m incredibly grateful to be part of an organization that celebrates diversity and nurtures creative growth.

Looking Ahead

As I embark on the next chapter of my career as an account executive at Baltic Digital Marketing Services, I’m excited to apply the skills I’ve honed at Rising to new challenges. While my passion for photography remains strong, this transition feels like a natural evolution, and I’m eager to explore where it will lead.

Final Thoughts

Moving forward, I carry with me the invaluable lessons learned at Rising. To young creatives, I urge you to heed Scott Galloway’s advice: don’t settle for environments where your worth isn’t recognized. Surround yourself with people and organizations that see your potential and inspire you to grow.

Thank you, Rising Arts Agency, for being a catalyst in my evolution. It’s been an honor to be part of a community that not only talks about change but actively creates it. I’m excited for the future and will always cherish the spirit of this remarkable place.

With love and gratitude,
