Young People’s Festival of Ideas: Language and Representation within LGBT+ Culture
Wed 22 February, 19:00-20:30
M Shed, Princes Wharf, Wapping Road, Bristol, BS1 4RN
February is LGBT+ History Month and M Shed have invited us to team up with Freedom Youth Bristol to bring you our second event of 2017. This time, we’re looking at the significance of language and representation in LGBT+ culture – past, present and future.
- Are we being taught enough about LGBT+ issues and culture both within school and the wider world?
- Are LGBT+ stories fairly represented within the media?
- How can we improve the language we use to talk about these issues?
Join us to discuss how we can address these questions when the cultural landscape and the language we use is constantly changing.
Panel members to be announced soon…
Young People’s Festival of Ideas is a series of debates on critical issues affecting young people today. Brought to you by an event partnership between Rising Arts Agency, Bristol Festival of Ideas, and Arnolfini, the event is open to all.
With a panel of high profile speakers, you can expect debates, laughter and lots and lots of free thinking.
After the panel discussion, there’s a chance to socialise and continue the conversation, with DJs, activities and a bar will be open from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
This event is open to all and free for under 25’s. If you are over 25 we would welcome a suggested donation of £2.50. Please ensure you bring ID with you if you wish to purchase alcohol.
