Sophie Malpas is a young artist living and working in the South West, graduating from Falmouth University in 2015. Working in film, printmaking and zines, she creates pop-tastic agitprop investigating the seductive world of the Internet, the edible, the kitsch, the queer and the sparkly. Packed with glitter bomb punches Sophie’s work explores the formation of an identifiable feminine voice screaming for appreciation of a new era of Girl. Since graduating Sophie has undertaken a number of assignments in the creative sector, gaining and developing her marketing and digital communications skills. This has included work for Rising with Theaster Gates’ ‘Sanctum,’ Bristol 2015 and design roles at several UK festivals. She was recently artist-in-residence with B.L.N.T, an artists’ collective that she works with, at La Postiza, Murcia, Spain, and was commissioned as part of the Channel 4/Arts Council project ‘Random Acts’ to direct a short film, ‘Ice Fever’, working with animation companies Arthur Cox and Aardman Animations to create a scrumptious adventure into the weird and wonderful secret world of an ice-lolly disco.
